Isle of jura origin 105/19/2023 ![]() ![]() Replacing Jura ‘Origin’ is a new 10 year old expression, matured in American Oak for 10 years before a period of finishing in Oloroso Sherry casks. For my part, however, the notion of a new take on the Jura spirit was an intriguing one, unconvinced as I was by the previous incarnations. Such was the success of the Jura brand, the announcement earlier this year that the range was to be completely overhauled took many by surprise with fans mourning the loss of Origin, Superstition and Prophecy. The new Jura distillery was designed by famed architect William Delme-Evans and once in production, the spirit began to establish itself as a household name single malt. Seeking to halt the population decline, landowners Robin Fletcher and Tony Riley-Smith got together in 1963 and decided to bring distillation back to the island. Where once over a thousand people made their home on this beautiful island off Scotland’s western coast, there are now less than 200 inhabitants. Over the years that followed, the distillery buildings fell into ruin as all around them, the local population dwindled. After almost a century in operation, the strain of running a business in such a remote area began to have an effect and the distillery finally ceased production in 1901. I also preferred the NAS Jura Superstition as it has bit more character. The original Craighouse distillery on the isle of Jura was created in 1810. It is like that person you know who is really nice and unassuming but when it comes down to it they are just not very interesting. SummaryĪn enjoyable nose and decent drinker but quite a way behind the 16 Diurachs’ Own. Malty with a hint of Liquorice Allsorts and sweets. It’s not bad but having had the Diurachs’ Own just before I can’t help but compare it to that and it lacks complexity in comparison. The slightest spice, toffee nuts, dried peaches some dark chocolate coated almonds. Black pepper, bananas, brazil nuts, floral notes, some apple juice and tinned pears. Slumbering for a full decade in quiet contentment, this beginning spirit has a lingering taste of warming gentle oak, notes of honey and caramel, soft liquorice and roasted coffee beans.” For that reason each bottle carries the traditional Celtic symbol for birth, beginning and the forces of nature. “Origin is the whisky that begins the Jura journey. However, the single malt produced on the island is held in high esteem by whiskey connoisseurs all over the world. It is not the easiest place to produce whiskey. It is a challenging environment with only one road, one pub, and one distillery. The island of Jura is home to over 5,000 deer and has a human population of approximately 212. ![]() The reconstruction was finalised in 1963, and after the installation of some taller stills, the distillery started production, creating various malts. It wasn’t until the 1950s that local businessmen Robin Fletcher and Tony Riley-Smith began a venture to rebuild the Jura distillery. It remained functional until circa 1900 when it was closed again, this time to be demolished. After some time, it fell into a state of disrepair and was renovated and re-opened in 1884. The Jura distillery is situated off the West Coast of Scotland, in the Inner Hebrides on the Island of Jura. Without any further inane rambling, here is my review of the Jura 10 Origin: About the Distillery But despite my initial description-based indifference I did what a good whiky review does and drank it anyway so that I could bring you this review. Now that description doesn’t really sound like my bad and the other two intrigued me more. There were descriptions of each whisky on the box with this one being labelled “Light and delicate with a warming honey finish”. This was the second one I sampled from the set of 3 Jura miniatures I purchased, the other two being the Jura 16 Diurachs’ Own and the Jura Superstition but it is the last one I’m writing up so there isn’t much left to say about Jura in the intro that I haven’t already said.īasically, is a small Scottish island and the Jura Distillery takes its name from that. ![]()

Some metallic goldfish have just small patches of metallic scales. This is due to a layer of guanine just beneath their scales that reflect light like a prism. Goldfish that have metallic scales seem to shimmer in their aquarium lighting. They can have scales of a single color, red, orange, yellow, blue, or black, or they can have scales of a single color mixed with streaks of silver. Metallic Goldfish come from three gene pools, Blue Belly, Metallic, and Mock Metallic. Here are some of the most common kinds of fancy goldfish you can keep in a home aquarium. Goldfish may come with metallic scales or scales in calico colors.Įxtreme coloration would make goldfish easy targets for predators in the wild or in your backyard pond, but they are harmless, interesting adaptations for goldfish kept in captivity. There are goldfish that not only sport dazzling colors but also interesting domed or dented (convex) scales. You can now find matte (non-reflective) black, blue, speckled orange, silver, and chocolate brown goldfish. Most of the goldfish you can find ready for sale in pet shops aren’t golden, or any color close to golden. There are so many colors of goldfish that the term “goldfish” has become misleading. They can injure the gentler, slower bespectacled, fancy-finned, and egg-shaped varieties of goldfish we will discuss a little later in this article. Slim-bodied Common Goldfish and Comet Goldfish are fast swimmers with aggressive features. While Common Goldfish and Comet Goldfish make good neighbors, most goldfish with unusual anatomical features need to be kept in their own tank. However, they don’t make good neighbors for other kinds of goldfish that stay small. Theresa Machemer, Smithsonian Magazine, 22 Jan. 2021 Kaiser and his colleagues chose rhenium because each atom is relatively large, compared more familiar atoms like carbon and oxygen that are less than one tenth of its atomic weight.
